The only difference is its coil is powered by the voltage being generated in the start winding. Its coil is connected in parallel with the start winding and its contacts are in series with the start capacitor. At rest the contacts will be closed powering the capacitors, when the motor starts and the start winding generates enough voltage to overcome the relays pickup minimum voltage the relay we open. All I have ever done was checked to make sure it was closed then watched the motors current while running, you could monitor the current flowing through the cap and when the relay opens there will no longer be any current being drawn. If the relay does not open prior to its maximum voltage rating, the relay should be replaced. Xenos. The best way to escape a problem is to solve it.
