Carrier 58GS100-2 Problem…

______________________________________________________________________ Ok…Have been having an issue with this carrier..and for being 17 years old is in damn good shape. It is M/N: 58GS100-2 and S/N:0786A08957 Heres what its got. its not an 80% furnace…electronic spark ignition. The problem im dealing with is that it has intermittent problem. Sometimes it wont do it sometimes it will. The furnace will light and as it heats up the flames will go out….then relight….go out…then relight. the pilot stays on the whole time. then the blower comes on. the gas valve never loses power when it does this. Im running out of ideas on what it could be. any help is gladly appreciated. Is this furnace intermittent spark-to-pilot with an ignition board, or does it have the three wire pilot set-up? thomascatesguy “Re(2):Carrier 58GS100-2 Problem…” , posted Sun 9 Dec 22:00 ______________________________________________________________________ quote: ______________________________________________________________________ In order for the burners to go out but the pilot stay lit, you must be losing power at the gas valve MV terminal. Is this furnace intermittent spark-to-pilot with an ignition board, or does it have t … ______________________________________________________________________ Intermittent spark but it does have 3 wire that goes to it. its the wierdest setup ive ever seen. leave it to me to have it in my house and not on a call. It has the black spark box and it does have a control board. I went ahead and gave it a full tune-up today in hopes it was just dirty but its still doing it. and the problem is intermittent. so it could be the gas-valve or the 3 wire pilot? acefurnacefxr “Re(1):Carrier 58GS100-2 Problem…” , posted Sun 9 Dec 21:51 ______________________________________________________________________ given its age i think idce change both boards, or change the whole furnace…………. I agree with Ace on this one. I wouldn’t invest much money in a 1986 furnace. “Tip of the Day” Remember to remove power first. static “Re(3):Carrier 58GS100-2 Problem…” , posted Sun 9 Dec 22:31 ______________________________________________________________________ Did you pull out the pilot module and clean it? You get the symptom you’ve got if the warp bar (where the red arrow is pointing) needs cleaned. Clean it with a bottle brush. Another thing you can try: Unplug the three wire pilot from the harness. Start the furnace, and at the plug on the end of the harness where the three wire pilot plugs into, JUMP the green and yellow wires together. The pilot should light. Now REMOVE that jumper, and jump the white and yellow wires together. The main burners should light and stay that way. If not, the problem is NOT the three wire pilot module.
